sack, but I'll do a quick recap! (I apologize ahead of time if this
recap isn't "quick".. I'm not known for being vague when it comes to
telling stories!)
- We left the house this morning around 10. There was pretty much no
traffic on the way, which was awesome! I was shocked, since it is the
Saturday of a holiday weekend!
- We got gas twice.
- Drove a total of 430 miles.
- Hit 12 different highways/freeways
- Drove in California, Nevada, and Arizona.
- There is some pretty intense wind activity on the trip so far! Major
cross winds. You would never notice it in a car, but you really do on
a bike! I wanted to fly a kite afterwards..
- Learned that Laughlin, NV is pretty much a sad attempt at Vegas. And
that the best part of that city was the view from the top of a hill,
looking into Arizona!
- Learned that in Arizona, you don't have to wear a helmet on a
motorcycle (don't worry, we still did!).
- Observed some "art with rocks" on the side of the road.. And that
people don't get very creative - "M + T" inside a heart, or their
name..
- Noticed that mountains in Arizona and Nevada look very different
than our California mountains - way more jagged!
- Learned (by feeling) that it gets very cold as you get closer to
the Grand Canyon. It started to. drop by 5° at a time in the last hour
or so.
- The hotel we're staying at," The Grand Canyon Hotel" claims to be
the oldest hotel here - it opened in 1891.
- We had dinner at this diner called... Country pine Restaurant... or
Pine Country... I can't remember. It was pretty good - and they had
yummy pie!
- We're now in for the night in our cute little room. Some of the
other rooms have to share a bathroom, we get our own though..
Thanks for keeping us in your prayers! So far there's been no bike
problems, health problems, or sanity problems :)
Also, after looking at our SpotWalla once we got in tonight, it looks
like it had a few glitches! Point #17 shows us hopping over to Big
Bear - that didn't happen. Apparently SpotWalla wanted us there! And
then it aso had a hiccup at Point #42 and #44.. We stayed on the 40
the whole time.. Other than that, it's pretty accurate!
Stay tuned for more pictures and posts!
